Today I went to the Long Island Pride day. It sort of depressed me. To start off, my friends are horrible at supporting any kind of cause other than their own egoistical musings, and consequently any attitude of community awarness or spirit I could have tried to muster was subsequently shut down by their snide remarks and constant laughter. Otherwise, it was amusing seeing all the "proud" denizens of Long Island out in all their finery (a.k.a cheap rainbow beads) prancing around on the street and in the park. I always feel slightly depressed at these functions. Like I am some kind of voyeur doomed to circle the edges of the festival and watch people, without ever talking. Just watch and record what I see for further notice. On the other hand, I did see quite a few of my friends and aquaintances, which is always fun since we only have the unique oppurtunity to reunite at events such as this- peace rallys, gay pride marches, and of course Ani DiFranco concerts.
All in all, today was a bittersweet occasion that will once again be recorded in my mind and looked back to in the future for any kind of reference I may need.
